Celebrate everyday Queenslanders who embody the spirit, values and pride of the Sunshine State - nominate a local legend

Queensland Day is a celebration of who we are and where we've come from - a day to honour everything that makes our state great. 6 June marks our independence day - the anniversary of Queensland's official separation from NSW in 1859.

Gorden Tallis

GORDEN TALLIS

One of Australia's toughest and most inspirational rugby league stars, Townsville-born and proud Queenslander Gorden 'Gordie' Tallis joined the Brisbane Broncos in 1997. Nicknamed the Raging Bull for his fearless, no-holds-barred style of play, Tallis played 160 games for the Broncos over eight seasons, winning three premierships. Gordie captained the Queensland Maroons from 1998 to 2001. In 1999, he was named man of the match in the State of Origin decider at Lang Park, helping Queensland retain the shield in a 10-all draw. He represented Queensland 20 times and played 11 Tests for Australia, captaining the national team in 2002. Since retiring in 2004, Gordie has become a respected media commentator and ambassador across Australia.

Lee Kernaghan

LEE KERNAGHAN

Lee Kernaghan's music rumbles across the Australian landscape like a souped-up ute belting out a cloud of dust. For more than three decades, this modern-day bush balladeer has bridged the gap between country's classic storytelling and a new breed of arena-rock showmanship. From the moment his debut album, The Outback Club, made waves in 1992, Lee has channelled the heart and grit of regional Australia with tracks that have become anthems. With a love for all things rural and regional Australia in his heart, Lee acquired the historic Great Western Hotel in Rocky for a few years in the mid-noughties, describing it as one of the greatest times of his life.

Lee is voting for the best pub - Great Western Hotel Rockhampton
