The Queensland Women on Boards Event series began in 2018 following the announcement of gender diversity targets for Queensland Government bodies, including a 50 per cent representation of women on boards.
Since 2018, Queensland has hosted Women on Boards events in Brisbane, Cairns, Gold Coast, Mount Isa, Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Townsville, providing a platform for robust discussion around gender parity on boards.
In 2019, the 50 per cent target was achieved and as of June 2024, more women than ever are represented on Queensland Government owned business bodies with female representation at 55 per cent.
As part of the Queensland Women's Strategy 2022-27, future Women on Boards events will focus on encouraging non-government sectors to set their own targets for women in leadership positions and women on boards.
